I found today’s lesson very interesting. We learnt Film Noir. I remember back in year 9, we had an attempt on making a film noir with our whole class. Film Noir always left me with a deep and eerie image, Noir in French means black therefore Film Noir means Black Film. It’s usually about detective stories and crime investigation. But there is always a femme fatal to seduce the protagonist. I was the femme fatal in the film we produced in year 9. The themes for Film Noir are normally political involving global current issues; it always tries to bring a message to the world through special plots. We watched a few examples on DVD and YouTube. They’re all very straightforward and I like this kind of learning method as visual representation are much easier to understand than words, I personally think it’s a lot more interesting as well because examples actually show the knowledge effectively.
To show that we have a full understanding of film noir, we have to be groups of four and we will create a script, plan, and storyboard and edit a two-person dialogue scene based on Heat and Infernal Affairs. We will have to apply all the knowledge we gained in class about film noir themes and characteristics. We will also apply our continuity editing techniques.
For this task, I am working with Bernice, Henry and Andy. Bernice and I thought it might be better to have mix groups and Ms. Wong also suggested it is easier to do this task if we have mix groups. We already assigned roles, where Bernice is the cameraman, Henry the scriptwriter, Andy the editor and I will be the sound director. I am looking forward to working with them because I’ve never worked with Henry nor Andy and I think this will help me improve my communication skills and working well as part as a team.
